Today's complex healthcare system requires healthcare professionals to interact with
health insurance providers. Many psychologists and mental health professionals
experience frustration when interacting with these organizations. They can often feel
overwhelmed and powerless when problems arise or when they are attempting to make
their voice heard. Jim Broyles, Ph.D. is the Director of Professional Affairs for the Ohio
Psychological Association. His role with OPA is to provide advocacy and support for
psychologists with these issues. This presentation will describe his efforts to help
organize and address these issues in Ohio. His talk will include developing strategies
for responding to insurance problems, identifying and connecting with resources,
creating a professional association insurance committee, and more. Opportunities for
participant questions and answers will be provided.
Jim Broyles, Ph.D. is Director of Professional Affairs for the Ohio Psychological
Association. His primary responsibilities in that role include advocating on behalf of
members with insurance organizations as well as providing member support for
insurance issues and questions. Jim is a longstanding member of the Ohio
Psychological Association, and has served as OPA President, Finance Officer,
Insurance Committee Chair, Marketing Task Force Chair, and LGBT Committee
chair. He currently co-chairs OPA's Leadership Development Academy. Dr. Broyles
earned his Ph.D. from the Ohio State University, and maintains a private practice in
Grove City, Ohio. He specializes in working with children, adolescents, families, and
LGBT issues.
