Today's complex healthcare system requires healthcare professionals to interact with

health insurance providers. Many psychologists and mental health professionals

experience frustration when interacting with these organizations. They can often feel

overwhelmed and powerless when problems arise or when they are attempting to make

their voice heard. Jim Broyles, Ph.D. is the Director of Professional Affairs for the Ohio

Psychological Association. His role with OPA is to provide advocacy and support for

psychologists with these issues. This presentation will describe his efforts to help

organize and address these issues in Ohio. His talk will include developing strategies

for responding to insurance problems, identifying and connecting with resources,

creating a professional association insurance committee, and more. Opportunities for

participant questions and answers will be provided.

Jim Broyles, Ph.D. is Director of Professional Affairs for the Ohio Psychological

Association. His primary responsibilities in that role include advocating on behalf of

members with insurance organizations as well as providing member support for

insurance issues and questions. Jim is a longstanding member of the Ohio

Psychological Association, and has served as OPA President, Finance Officer,

Insurance Committee Chair, Marketing Task Force Chair, and LGBT Committee

chair. He currently co-chairs OPA's Leadership Development Academy. Dr. Broyles
