Course Description
This course, Advanced Report Writing: Creating Refined, Readable, and Relevant Reports, provides practical strategies to transform neuropsychological reports into impactful, consumer-responsive documents. Designed for professionals seeking to improve the accessibility and effectiveness of their reports, the course focuses on simplifying language, integrating visual aids, and structuring content to prioritize clarity and utility. Participants will learn how to craft reports that meet the diverse needs of families, educators, and referral sources while maintaining scientific rigor and ethical standards. The course content is firmly grounded in evidence-based practices, drawing on peer-reviewed research to guide improvements in report writing. Studies such as Rahill (2018) and Postal et al. (2018) demonstrate the importance of readability and consumer-focused design, while research on plain language and cognitive load (e.g., Cheung, 2017; Summers & Summers, 2006) highlights the benefits of simplifying complex information. Participants will explore strategies for reducing cognitive load, enhancing engagement, and ensuring that reports align with the ethical obligation to use language "reasonably understandable to the person assessed," as outlined by APA guidelines. Through the application of these empirically supported methods, attendees will leave equipped to create reports that are scientifically accurate, legally defensible, and accessible to all readers.
