2. Recognize the impacts of health disparities on black youth with type 1 diabetes.
3. Identify evidence-based interventions and strategies for promoting mental health and glycemic outcomes in youth with type 1 diabetes.
Course Description
This presentation will bring to focus mental health in youth with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and the ways in which behavioral health clinicians can build resiliency and provide support to youth and their families living with T1D. National (ADA) and international (ISPAD) professional associations for diabetes recognize the importance of assessment and intervention for the psychosocial aspects of T1D. This presentation will help to increase provider understanding of behavioral health strategies to help promote psychological wellness and glycemic control during formative years of development and discuss sociocultural factors that can contribute to diabetes distress and glycemic variability.
