2. Demonstrate how racial identity development models are useful in clinical practice.
3. Apply racial identity development models to clinical vignettes.
Course Description
The Racial Identity workshop is 2 hours and will teach Helms's racial identity development model. The workshop will begin with foundational definitions of power, racism, and white supremacy. Followed by a presentation of Helms's racial development models and how they relate to therapy. Specifically, the presentation will help develop clinicians' and trainees' ability to identify their own racial identity status and the influence of racial identity status in interpersonal interactions. Break-out rooms will be used to discuss racial identity theory through the use of vignettes.
